Learning to swim offers much more than safety around the water. It builds self confidence, develops self-esteem, and makes water a safe, fun environment for a lifetime! Our swim lessons are specifically tailored to the participant’s age, swimming ability, level of physical development and confidence in the water. Participants will progress to the next stage based on swim evaluations. Our program uses skill-based instruction through activities that maximize physical activity, emphasize safety, all while engaging swimmers.

Parent/Child Swim Lessons

The Y is excited to offer an amazing deal on our Parent/Child Swim Lessons! For just $30 per month, parents and their littles ones are invited to come enjoy this positive bonding experience in the water. This class is geared towards introducing ages 6 months to 3 years to the aquatic environment – focusing on water safety, positive interaction and more…while also having tons of fun! Year-round classes are offered at both our Centennial Hills Y and SkyView Y. The Heinrich Y and Durango Hills Y will offer Parent/Child Swim Lessons seasonally once the pools open. For more info and to register for the next session, please click the button below.

Registration for swim lessons is done by registering for age group: Parent/Child, Preschool, Youth or Teen/Adult lessons. When registering you will be asked a series of questions, which will help place the swimmer in the proper level. The first day of lessons, instructors will review skill requirements for the swim lesson level and confirm swimmers are in the proper level.

Swim Lessons for Special Needs

The Y is dedicated to elevating and promoting equality within communities around the country, guaranteeing opportunity and advancement for all while striving to identify and eliminate barriers that prevented the full participation of some groups. Through this swimming program, parents and caregivers of children with special needs will be given the opportunity to provide their children with the means to learn fundamental water safety and swimming skills for FREE. Knowing how to be safe around water is one of the most important life skills we can teach our children. It gives them confidence and it can save their lives.

What We Teach

Using an evidence-based curriculum, the Diverse Abilities Swim Lessons program will be placed in skill and ability-specific programs based on their needs. Student to instructor ratio is no more than 1-5 with lower ratios as needed. Learning to stay safe around water may begin at the Y, but it doesn’t end there. That’s why there is a Family Education Component that reinforces the learning at home and helps children progress more quickly.

Swim Team & Pre-Swim Team

Swim Team being coached by YMCA leader | aquatics

Come be part of a great aquatics experience! The Y Swim Team is a developmental swim program run by trained coaches to improve swimmers’ competitive skills and endurance through progression rather than intense competition.  The Y swim team promotes healthy lifestyles while embracing the four core values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring.

For those who completed levels 1-6 swim lessons, Pre-Swim Team is designed for kids who love swimming and have goals of joining swim team. Swimmers who haven’t decided if swim team is right for them will enjoy Pre-Swim Team. Practice will include laps, drills, relay work, racing starts, and flip turns.
